The Stone Quarry
The Stone Quarry in Winterswijk is a pride and joy of the city. In former times, limestone from the Triassic geological period was excavated in it and developed into dolomitic limestone. It is well worth a visit and would make an ideal day trip with the family.
Because the rate of sedimentation is so slow, various geological phenomena have been preserved, such as wave ripples, cracks and recesses formed by raindrops. You can also find ichnofossils of worm-like animals and the footprints of dinosaurs there. The Stone Quarry in Winterswijk is situated three kilometre from Het Winkel holiday park and is easy to reach by bike or car.
